Industry Insight Li Qiu / Beginning of Autumn August 7: The Season of Harvest, Seen Through a Manufacturer's Eyes The 13th solar term - where summer heat meets autumn rhythm What is Li Qiu? It is the 13th solar term on the traditional Chinese calendar and the first term of autumn, falling on August 7 in 2026, when the sun reaches 135 degrees of celestial longitude. The name is a promise: Li means "beginning," and Qiu means "grain ripening" - the moment when nature shifts from vigorous growth toward maturity and harvest. Yet in practice, Li Qiu rarely feels like autumn. It usually arrives while the "three ten-day heat periods" are still running, and the lingering heat can surge back in what the Chinese call the "autumn tiger" - short spells of scorching weather after the calendar has turned. The season carries a mixed climate: summer humidity not fully gone, autumn dryness just beginning. For an industrial manufacturer, Li Qiu is a transition signal. Daytime heat still tests cooling systems and material behavior, while cooler nights change thermal conditions on the shop floor. At Anhui Yuanfeng, this seasonal turning point is part of how we plan production quality. ◆ How the Autumn Transition Affects Slewing Ring Manufacturing Three production factors that change when summer hands over to autumn 1. Wider Day-Night Temperature Swings During summer, workshop temperature stays fairly even through the day. After Li Qiu, the gap between afternoon heat and early-morning coolness widens noticeably - a daily swing that can reach 15 degrees or more in our region. Steel dimensions shift with temperature: a 2,000 mm slewing ring changes roughly 0.14 mm per 10 degrees. When a bearing is measured in the cool morning and machined in the warm afternoon, the difference matters. How Yuanfeng responds: We keep critical measurement bays climate-controlled all year, and we log the ambient temperature on every inspection report. During the transition weeks, we also schedule thermal-sensitive operations - final grinding, raceway measurement, gear inspection - at consistent times of day to keep readings comparable. 2. The Humidity Handover: From Muggy to Dry Li Qiu marks the beginning of the end of the rainy season. Workshop humidity starts falling, which eases one summer concern - surface corrosion - but introduces another: temperature and humidity fluctuations can affect the behavior of measuring equipment and the viscosity of lubricants and anti-rust compounds used in production. How Yuanfeng responds: Our anti-rust and lubrication schedules are reviewed at each seasonal change. As humidity drops, we adjust the type and quantity of temporary anti-rust protection, and we verify that CMM and hardness-testing instruments remain within their calibrated operating range as the air becomes drier. 3. Seasonal Maintenance for Customer Equipment For the machines that carry our bearings - cranes, excavators, wind turbines, rotary tables - the summer-to-autumn transition is the ideal moment for maintenance planning. After months of high-temperature operation, grease condition and seal wear deserve a check before cooler weather changes lubricant behavior. A practical note for equipment owners: Before temperatures drop, verify that the slewing bearing lubrication matches the upcoming operating season, inspect seal integrity, and listen for changes in rotation noise. Small checks in autumn prevent unplanned downtime in winter. Our team is happy to advise on lubrication schedules for your application. ◆ Autumn Traditions and What They Teach Us Li Qiu is not just a calendar point - it is one of the most important traditional festivals of the year. Several customs carry a quiet wisdom that applies as well to manufacturing as to daily life: "Pasting autumn fat" After a hot summer of reduced appetite, tradition says to restore the body with nourishing food once the weather cools. The sensible version of this custom - and the one we practice - is moderation: rebuild strength steadily rather than overloading all at once. In manufacturing terms, it is the same principle as planned maintenance: replenish resources before the demanding season, but do it in a controlled, measured way. "Biting autumn" Eating watermelon or autumn fruits on Li Qiu day is said to "bite away the remaining summer heat." It is a small ritual of transition - acknowledging what is ending while welcoming what comes. Every workshop knows this rhythm: finishing the summer production rush, then preparing quietly for the autumn and year-end cycle. "Drying the harvest" In mountain villages, the autumn harvest is laid out to dry in colorful layers across rooftops and courtyards. It is the season's visible record of work done well. For a manufacturer, the equivalent is traceability - every bearing we ship carries a production record that documents the work behind it, ready for inspection at any time. ◆ Crew Well-Being Through the Seasonal Change The autumn transition is a delicate time for people too. Days can still be hot, while evenings turn cool - a combination that invites colds if not managed carefully. At our Hefei facility, we remind our team about the seasonal shift: moderate night air-conditioning, protection for the neck, shoulders, and joints, and morning warm-up routines before starting work in cooler workshops. Traditional autumn health advice - eat pears, lily, lotus root, and honey; favor sour flavors over spicy; avoid overeating - reflects a simple truth that also applies to industrial work: steady, balanced routines outperform bursts of intensity. We carry the same principle into production planning as the year moves toward its busiest quarter. ◆ From Growth to Harvest Li Qiu reminds us that every season has its purpose. Summer was the season of growth and intensity; autumn is the season of consolidation - reviewing what was built, maintaining it carefully, and preparing for the year ahead. At Anhui Yuanfeng Slewing Rings Co., Ltd., we produce slewing bearings from 200 mm to 6,000 mm, and we treat every season as part of our quality process: materials tested, tolerances verified, records kept, and customers supported year-round. As the harvest season begins, we wish our customers and partners a productive autumn - and we are ready to support your projects with the same precision through every season to come. ◆ Frequently Asked Questions Quick answers for buyers sourcing slewing rings Q: How does temperature change affect slewing bearing tolerances? Steel expands roughly 0.14 mm per 10 degrees Celsius on a 2,000 mm diameter ring. Wide day-night swings, like those after Li Qiu, can shift measurements taken at different times of day, which is why critical inspections are done in climate-controlled conditions. Q: When should slewing bearing lubrication be checked? Seasonal transitions are the ideal time. After a hot summer of continuous operation, verify grease condition and seal integrity before cooler weather changes lubricant behavior. An autumn check prevents winter downtime. Q: What materials does Yuanfeng use for slewing rings? We use 42CrMo and 50Mn alloy steels with raceway induction hardening (HRC 55-62), ground raceways, and Zeiss CMM inspection on every unit. Production range: 200 mm to 6,000 mm outer diameter. Q: Can Yuanfeng provide custom slewing rings? Yes. We engineer custom slewing rings to customer bolt patterns, load cases, and gear specifications, starting from a single piece. Send us your drawing or application details for a recommendation. Industry Insight Major Heat / Da Shu July 23 - August 6: How Extreme Temperatures Test Slewing Ring Quality The 12th solar term and the hottest period of the year What is Major Heat ? It is the 12th solar term on the traditional Chinese calendar and the hottest period of the year, falling between July 22-24. In 2026, Da Shu begins on July 23, when the sun reaches 120 degrees of celestial longitude. The name tells the story: Da (great) + Shu (heat) - the peak of summer intensity. In Chinese tradition, this is a season described as "steaming above, boiling below" - a blend of scorching sun, oppressive humidity, and sudden thunderstorms. Ancient scholars compared the accumulated heat to a stove brought into a room: the warmth builds gradually, and by Major Heat the thermal inertia has reached its peak. For an industrial manufacturer, Major Heat is more than a calendar marker. It is a real operational stress test - one that affects material behavior, machining tolerances, and production schedules. At Anhui Yuanfeng, this season demands heightened attention across the entire production line. ◆ How Summer Heat Affects Slewing Ring Manufacturing Three challenges that intensify when the mercury rises 1. Thermal Expansion and Clearance Tolerances Steel expands with heat. For a slewing bearing with a 2,000 mm outer diameter, a 10-degree temperature swing can produce a dimensional change of roughly 0.14 mm - significant enough to shift internal clearance from the designed specification. During Major Heat, workshop temperatures can fluctuate by 15-20 degrees within a single day. A bearing fit measured in the cool morning hours may not represent actual operating conditions during the afternoon heat. How Yuanfeng responds: Critical measurements - raceway dimensions, gear pitch, and final clearance - are conducted in climate-controlled measuring bays. For tight-tolerance orders, we schedule final inspection during consistent thermal conditions and note the ambient temperature on the report. 2. Induction Hardening Consistency Induction hardening of the raceway surface relies on precise heating and quenching cycles. When workshop temperature climbs above 38 degrees Celsius, the cooling efficiency of the quenching medium can shift, potentially affecting hardened layer depth and surface hardness consistency. How Yuanfeng responds: Our heat treatment line monitors quenchant temperature in real time. During Major Heat, we increase hardness-gradient verification frequency - running Rockwell tests on every batch rather than every third batch. 3. Humidity and Corrosion Risk Major Heat brings extreme humidity. The "soil is moist and the air is muggy" - as the ancient description goes - is a warning for metalwork. During monsoon-like rainy periods, corrosion risk on machined steel surfaces increases significantly. How Yuanfeng responds: We apply temporary anti-rust oil earlier in the production flow, reduce inter-operation wait times, and monitor workshop humidity. Finished bearings get an additional protective layer when humidity exceeds 75 percent. ◆ The Wisdom of the Season The Chinese calendar divides Major Heat into three five-day phases: fireflies emerging from the grass, the earth becoming damp and muggy, and heavy rains arriving in succession. These ancient observations carry practical wisdom: extreme conditions, while challenging, prepare the ground for autumn harvest. In manufacturing, the same principle applies. High temperatures reveal stresses in materials and processes that remain invisible in milder conditions. A production line that performs reliably through Da Shu is one designed with safety margin, monitored with care, and operated with discipline. There is a traditional custom called "sending off the Major Heat boat" - launching a decorated vessel into the sea to dispatch summer heat and pray for a smooth harvest. For a manufacturer, this spirit of preparation - anticipating challenges before they arrive - is not a ritual but daily practice. ◆ Crew Well-Being in the Heat Extreme weather tests not only equipment but people. At our Hefei facility, summer workshops operate with adjusted schedules to avoid the most intense midday hours. Hydration stations are placed at every work area, and breaks are scheduled on a shorter cycle. Our heat treatment operators rotate in 45-minute shifts with dedicated cooling-down time - a practice we never compromise on. Major Heat is traditionally a time for fu tea - herbal infusions made from honeysuckle, prunella, and licorice. While we leave remedies to personal preference, the principle that working conditions should adapt to the season is one we take seriously. ◆ From Heat to Harvest Major Heat is the peak of the year warmth, but also the turning point. After Da Shu comes Li Qiu - the Beginning of Autumn. The ancient observation that "heat accumulates and does not rest" reminds us that every extreme is temporary, and that discipline maintained during the hardest conditions carries through to the harvest. At Anhui Yuanfeng Slewing Rings Co., Ltd., we treat every season as part of our quality process - because a bearing that performs reliably through summer worst heat is a bearing you can trust all year round. 🌿 Minor Heat / Xiao Shu The Heat Arrives - and So Does the Precision Xiao Shu 2026 | July 7 - July 22 Published: July 7, 2026 . Category: Industry Insights . By Yuanfeng Slewing Rings What is Minor Heat (Xiao Shu)? It is the 11th of the 24 traditional Chinese solar terms, falling on July 7 this year - the moment when summer heat begins to intensify, yet has not yet peaked. In Chinese farming wisdom, it is the season when the earth warms from within, and every living thing - crops, insects, and steel alike - responds to the rising mercury. For the industrial world, Xiao Shu is more than folklore. Rising ambient temperatures create measurable challenges in precision manufacturing, particularly in the production of slewing rings- the large-diameter bearings that enable rotation in excavators, cranes, wind turbines, and solar trackers. . . . How Does Heat Affect Slewing Ring Manufacturing? Thermal stability is not optional in slewing ring production - it is the difference between a bearing that lasts a decade and one that fails within 18 months. As workshop temperatures climb past 35 °C (95 °F), every stage of production, from raw steel storage to final assembly, demands heightened attention. Thermal Expansion and Clearance Tolerances A slewing ring with a 1,200 mm outer diameter expands by approximately 0.14 mm for every 10 °C rise. In a standard Xiao Shu day, the temperature on the workshop floor can swing from 26 °C at dawn to over 42 °C by mid-afternoon - a 16 °C delta that produces dimensional shifts large enough to alter raceway clearance and rolling-element contact patterns. This is why at Yuanfeng, we mandate climate-controlled final assembly for all slewing rings destined for solar-tracker and wind-energy applications, where field temperature variation is itself a design parameter. Heat Treatment Integrity Induction hardening and tempering - the processes that give slewing ring raceways their hardness (HRC 55-62) - are temperature-sensitive recipes. A workshop floor at 38 °C alters quenching-oil viscosity, cooling rates, and final hardness gradients. During the Xiao Shu period, Yuanfeng's QC team increases sampling frequency on hardness testing and dimensional inspection by 30 % to stay within ISO 9001:2015 and GB/T standards. ⚙ Yuanfeng's Heat-Season Quality Protocol > Pre-shift temperature logging in assembly and heat-treatment zones > Extended stabilization dwell for incoming steel stock (24 h in controlled environment before machining) > Increased lubrication intervals for CNC gantries and rotary tables > Coolant temperature monitoring in all grinding and turning operations > Staff rotation schedule to minimize afternoon fatigue risk . . . People Under Pressure: Heat-Season Workforce Management Behind every slewing ring lies a team of machinists, heat-treatment operators, and inspectors. The human body, unlike a CNC machine, has no built-in thermal management system rated for 40 °C continuous operation. During high-temperature periods, Yuanfeng adjusts workshop schedules to a 06:00-12:00 morning shift, allowing crews to complete the bulk of precision work before the day's peak heat, while ensuring electrolyte-enhanced drinking water at every station. This is operational discipline: a fatigued operator's measurement error at the grinding stage can scrap a ¥50,000 slewing ring blank. . . . Eating for the Heat: Traditional Wisdom for Modern Shifts 🥒 Eat Light, Stay Sharp - Bitter Gourd & Mung Bean Soup In traditional Chinese dietary therapy, Xiao Shu is the season to "clear heat and expel dampness" . A bowl of mung bean soup - beans boiled just until they crack, served at room temperature with a touch of rock sugar - replenishes fluids and electrolytes lost through sweat, without caffeine or excess sugar. Stir-fried bitter gourd with garlic drives out internal heat-dampness, leaving you clearer-headed for the afternoon shift. Mung bean soup - the shop floor's summer staple Winter melon - nature's coolant 🧊 A Playful Folk Remedy There's an old Chinese saying: "hug a winter melon and you'll sleep through the heat" . While we can't promise it beats air conditioning, the logic is sound - a winter melon's flesh is over 96 % water, making it noticeably cool to the touch. In traditional Chinese medicine it is classified as a cooling food that dispels summer dampness. Slice it into soup, stuff it with mushrooms, or simply keep one by your bedside - the winter melon is Xiao Shu's most versatile companion. 😄 . . . From Solar Terms to Supply Chains The 24 solar terms are thousands of years old, yet they still describe something real: the earth's rhythm, the predictable cycle of heat and cold, the stress nature applies to every structure - biological or mechanical - that stands in the sun. For a slewing ring manufacturer, Xiao Shu is a reminder that precision is never absolute - it is always relative to temperature, humidity, and the hands that set the dial. Understanding these relationships is what separates a bearing that merely meets spec from one that outlasts the machine it lives in. "Small Heat arrives; the cicadas sing; the steel holds its shape." Stay cool, stay precise. From all of us at Anhui Yuanfeng Slewing Rings Co., Ltd. - Happy Minor Heat. Safe lifting and smooth rotation!
On our production floor, a critical and meticulous step is currently taking place: our engineers are carefully loading high-precision steel balls into the raceway of a heavy-duty 2-meter slewing bearing. This specific component is custom-engineered for upcoming truck-mounted crane applications. Rather than a simple final assembly, the insertion of these rolling elements is the heart of the bearing's functionality. Truck-mounted cranes operate under extreme lifting conditions, demanding flawless rotation and immense load-bearing capacity. By meticulously assembling these steel balls into the precisely ground raceway, we ensure optimal load distribution. This minimizes friction and maximizes the stability and safety of the lifting equipment when handling massive loads. Every steel ball must fit perfectly to guarantee smooth, continuous operation. As we complete this vital step, we move closer to the final quality inspection and delivery. We remain fully committed to manufacturing top-tier slewing bearing solutions for global heavy machinery. Stay tuned for more updates from our workshop.
Another exciting update from our new factory! Our brand-new 3-meter grinding machine is taking its final shape—the team is currently installing its heavy-duty sheet metal enclosure (the protective outer shell). While the internal precision testing is complete, this sturdy outer shell is just as important. It keeps the workspace clean, ensures top safety for our team, and protects the machine's high-precision parts. Seeing this giant machine go from bare steel to a fully finished, professional workstation makes us incredibly proud of our nearly 20 years of growth. We are just a few steps away from pressing the "Start" button on this new production line. Stay tuned for more updates!
